About the Project

The Democracy Dialogues (DEMOS)

project addresses critical issues such as the lack of dialogue, low trust in democracy, growing social polarisation and divisions, and difficulties in conflict resolution or communication.

DEMOS – Democracy Dialogues project aims to respond to some of the above mentioned challenges encouraging people to have local dialogues on important, societal issues. Dialogue, life-long learning and self development can be crucial responses to challenges people face in our times.

The main objectives of the DEMOS project are:

  1. To increase societal dialogue
  2. To increase dialogue competences of the citizens
  3. To learn more about democracy in an inspiring and constructive way
  4. And by the help of these three objectives: To strengthen the culture of democracy.

To achieve the above-mentioned goals we have created a DEMOS Dialogue method as a tool to discuss important societal issues in your local area. With the help of the method, you can invite people from different backgrounds to come together and share their experiences about different phenomena as well as to listen to others. With the help of the DEMOS Dialogue you can learn more about yourself, others and democracy. Next to increasing dialogue, the method also aims to encourage the participants to get civically engaged in their local communities.
